Moose
The moose is Sweden’s biggest and most mythical
game. In some instances older bulls can reach a height of 2 meters at the shoulder
and weigh up to 900 kilos. The average weight of a live moose is
between 300 and 600 kilos. To experience the majestic flight of
a moose over an open field in the early mist shrouded morning is
an optimal nature experience. Despite its weight the moose moves
with surprising grace and speed should it sense any danger. We
have hunted moose in
Sweden
since the beginning of time and today one calculates yearly
shooting in order to reduce the numbers of about 100,000
animals. Aside from hunting and traffic accidents some moose
also fall prey to bear and wolf. A grown moose eats up to 50
kilos of plant matter per day. The lean and protein rich meat
has a genuine gamy flavour but can also be used in many
traditional dishes.
